Over forty people gathered for the first planting of our new orchard by Lord Lieutenant Sir John Crabtree. This first tree was planted on behalf of His Majesty The King and began the day’s planting.

In total, 105 fruit trees and shrubs have been planted to create an orchard along the pathway at Coppice Farm. The idea is that in the years to come, members of the community will be able to gather fruit from this orchard, and the local wildlife will also benefit.

Every single tree was planted in memory of loved ones, with the very first tree planted by Lord Lieutenant Sir John Crabtree to remember our late Queen Elizabeth II. Throughout the day people shared good humour and stories, keeping up good spirits throughout the heat wave. We hope that people will cherish this project which was delivered for free to local people.
